The link to POYi Best Photography Book – http://www.poyi.org/70/42/ – does not work for me. Just sits there, delivering a blank page. Am I the only one?
TIA.
M.
Michal:
link works on my computer at school. That is a very LARGE shot of Candy at the beach :))…
BB,
Hmm. Strange. Even cranked up the Windows side of my Mac to try, still not go, at my end. :-(
Shall try again, and again, and again, later.
Best!
M.
Congratulations!
I raised my glass of wine last night and made a toast when I saw the news in instagram.
AWESOME! Well well well deserved!
Oh and I am having the same problem as Michal…..that link is not working for me.
Perhaps a MAC issue?
Many congratulations to everyone. I would be in an even more congratulatory mood if the kid down the street hadn’t swiped my copy of the October issue of NG, which my poor man’s copy of BOTS. He’ll deny it, of course–he’ll say he couldn’t have taken it, he’s an altar boy–but he’s not BSing me; I know he took it. The altar boy excuse won’t fly with me; I went to Catholic school and I know better. The altar boys in my class were either shits or suckups, and sometimes both at the same time.
Michal (god to see you here) and all,
I tried it, and initially I got the same thing. Then I stopped the page from loading, then hit reload. That worked. Either the page has lots of info, lots of scripts running, or maybe just heavier server load than they can handle efficiently (very likely).
***Correction*** Michal, Good to see you here – don’t want to give you a complex.
guys, empty your cache , clean up your clogged browsers… try mozilla or another browser etc…big hug
Beautiful and well deserved. Congrats to all!!!
Congrats congrats!
Most excellent news. Congratulations.
Congrats. Well deserved.
God – I mean got – it, Brian. ;-)

In other POYi news, a real shitstorm is developing:
https://nppa.org/node/36604
I suppose there’s nothing wrong with the concept of a chicken cam, although I think that using an earthbound bird like a chicken does not make the most of that concept. Why not a falcon or some other raptor cam, or if you want to be more down to earth about it, why not a wolf cam or a cheetah cam? That should enhance the viewer’s experience no end. You would want to avoid some animals, however; I don’t think there’s a market for a sloth cam, for example. No one is going to sit and watch hours of an animal doing nothing, not when they can watch Andy Warhol films of people doing nothing with only slightly better dialogue.
CHICKENSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations, David, Candy, Diego, Eva and all who helped out in this incredible process that led to the best photo book of the year. Oddly enough, I feel as though I fully witnessed and participated in this process first hand, even though all I really did was follow online from a great distance. But great distances have become small and in a small but real way I really did witness, I really did participate – as did all who regularly visit Burn.
and yeah PANOS…
don’t ask how we are…as long as we have chickens and oil …
we are not lost…
Oime,ZEUS,we are just trying to improvise…!!!
FROSTYYYYYYYYY and the other witnesses)…you are eligible for the BURNING Witness Protection Program …
LOVE YOUUUU!!!
Yes, Civi, and how did I leave you and Panos out of those I named specifically? There are more of course, but who can doubt your role and there was Panos, right in the midst throughout and at the end making sure everybody got their copies.
Love you, too!!! Very much!
And nobody should interpret my now once-a-week only visits to Burn as any kind of diminishment in my love for this place. I am just overwhelmed and find the net to be both one of my best friends and worst enemies and so struggle to draw down and make more effective the time I do spend online.
As hard as it is to stay away for six days a week, I find that in one day I can truly catch up and make any relevant/or mostly irrelevant comments about essays and such that strikes me.
FROSTY …
‘And nobody should interpret my now once-a-week only visits to Burn as any kind of diminishment in my love for this place. I am just overwhelmed and find the net to be both one of my best friends and worst enemies and …”
I struggle too to find some kind of balance…AND we are doing ok,FROSTY !!!
P.S…PANOS and KIM and so many others..are “making sure everybody got their copies.”…credit when and where credit is due…oime, FROSTY,I am not involved in this process…hihiii…cause singing and signing =same verb …hihiii
David, adding my congrats late. Sorry I missed you while you were in town. Maybe next time. One of these days you should consider breaking out of your thing for a morning and go walking around with me in my Brooklyn haunts. I think you’d enjoy it.
Today’s been a day of great news so far. Chloe, who you met in Paris, got a summer job with HBO documentaries. I’m very happy for her. More selfishly, This morning I plugged in a hard drive that died in 2009 with six months of my work on it and it mounted. I’ve recovered the most important projects and it’s still copying. Before, I’d only been able to recover some of the retouched work. I don’t know if the work from that era is any good, but a lot of it is certainly different. It includes a lot of my black and white work leading up to the first Coney Island Beach project. So it looks like my hard lesson on backup isn’t turning out to be so hard after all. I’m really thrilled.
Here’s some stuff from the first folder I looked at. Not at all different, but Burn readers may be a little interested because they are from the area where Nathan Pearce produces his excellent work. Provides a small amount of additional context.
Finally, I’m a little bummed that comments here seem to have died again. Really unfortunate since many of the regulars are discussing one very prominent Magnum-related documentary photography story everywhere but here.
comments, lack of not really a surprise considering there is no comment section as such anymore, compounded by also by the situation that there is nowhere to initiate a discussion
Yea well the photographer was aware what he was doing but a bit like the press these days, post to make stuff up and say sorry later, a ploy that is acceptable policy by the tabloids.
Me I am in in the fiction section of the libary
mw..
Cool pictures.. where are they from? I’m sure they could have been taken very near here.
